1. almost anything to do with the bathrooms here are different. less water in the toilets. different flushing mechanisms. but the stuff that i just cant understand is how in so many places like hungary and italy and croatia the showers are just lacking. they refuse to attach the spigot to the wall. it just hangs from a hose and at best has a little cradle for it to rest on, but why cant it just be put up higher? and where is the shower curtain? im getting water all over the place. im learning to do it better, but whats so hard about installing a curtain?
2. oh, dreadlocks arent just for hippies anymore. but they are still a good indication that they smoke weed or may know where to get it.
3. on the hair topic, the mullet is back! but its sort of a different kind of mullet. and often the mullet part has some dreadlocks in them or is all dreadlocks.
4. everyone listens to some kind of electronic music. whether its techno or trance. its even on the radio. dj music on the radio.
5. america and americans aren't to popular with people here. canadians all wear a canadian flag on their backpacks so as not to be confused as americans and treated with contempt. some americans put canadian flags on their packs for the same reason. i think that is stupid.
6. the chinese travel in very very very large groups and take photos of everything.
7. The Dutch and the Norwegians speak a near flawless english. they are the only people ive been able to talk to whose first language is not english without having to speak very slowly and with only the simplest words.
8. Croatians and Hungarians are very nice and very friendly and very generous. Italians, not so much. ---- ok these are gross generalizations, but u know im just relating the experiences i had. definitely met some chill italians.. anyways u know what i mean..
9. smaller, more independently run hostels are much more fun and waaaay cooler, and almost always host more interesting people.
10. meeting locals is way more exciting than fellow travelers, but much harder to communicate with.
