Hvar and Beyond

So when i left dubrovnik i headed for Split for the night and then to the island of hvar. Split was cool. had a really old old city center. built by diocletus. there was a humungous statue of him there and everyone rubs his big toe for good luck as they walk past him. its all shiny and worn down from the thousands of rubs that thing got. i rubbed it. and i think ive been pretty damn lucky since then!

well accept for when i missed 2 ferries to split the next day and had to wait around a bunch. but thats ok cuz when i got to hvar and was bombared with old women carrying signs saying accomodation, sobe, and that same thing in about 4 other languages. i got my own room for 150 kunas. (thats good.) not only that. i got a can of cold beer on arrival and sat with her son and son in law in their garden while that swatted flies off a gigantic tuna fish in a bowl on the table. their english was terrible. my croatian was worse. we tried to use a dictionary but gave up pretty fast. i got some groceries from the store and walked around a bit and when i came back, Sofia the landlady gives me a gigantic plate of grilled tuna with a whole tomato and fresh bread. best tuna ever. best tomato ever. best bread ever. best life ever. so despite the bests, i wasnt planning to stay there for longer than a night. its easier to meet people and make friends in a hostel. so i walked over to a hostel i heard of called the green lizard and reserved a bed for the next couple nights. by the way, i ended up staying even longer because it turns out that its almost impossible to leave hvar. u get sucked in by the constant chilling out during the day and the ridiculously fun partying at night. almost everyone at the lizard who was there when i was lengthened their stay. it becomes an imperitive. so the people that i met were mostly from england and australia. one guy from luxembourg who is a psychologist and we got along quite well. so now part of the plan is to visit him there for the weekend before i head to amsterdam. but thats like 5 weeks from now. im excited about it tho cuz meeting the locals anywhere i can has become my new obsession. meeting other travelers is nice, but its no longer as interesting. u end up asking and answering the same questions over and over and over again. where are you from? where have you been? where are you going? what do you do back home? the joke is that you should just carry a card around listing everywhere. my idea is to get a chalkboard and a string and hang it around my neck.

anywayssss. so the people i hung out with from the lizard were cool. i dont think i made any special connections with them at all but we partied together and had alot of fun. it was all about repeating over and over all of the millions of inside jokes that just piled on eachotehr from one day to the next. like everyone was constantly pillaging eachother. meaning constant pranks. usually with sexual connotations. rape was a popular topic of conversation but when it became obvious that we couldnt just talk about rape in public someone volunteered to change the word to "spag" which is not even really rape. its a more milder nicer version of rape. it goes on and on from there.... we spent days on the beach. took out motor boats another day and went to different beaches and islands and played with a bouncy ball and snorkeled. we found an island with a bar we called the tree fort bar. the most chilled out relaxed place in the entire world. we called it the tree fort bar cuz they had little forts built into their treees where we could sit and lay down on pillows. there were hamocks and swings and strawberry daquiris and we got free shots of reallz weird but good tasting croatian liquor. the bartender just ran around with the bottle and a shot glass and passed it around to everyone. ----- the joke definitely became that hvar is clearly a very difficult and stressful life... chillin in the day. playing drinking games at night. going down to the bar. then to the discotheque. BEST SCHEDULE EVER. stressful, right?

i have to leave the rest for now but ill just say that the last night i stayed up all night. took a 630 am ferry to Split. a bus to Zadar. and a train to Budapest. got into the hostel at around midnight. i was planning to go to bed but it didnt work out that way... more later.
